In this digital age there are quite a few people who still ponder on the question “Do I really need to have a website?”. Whenever I am asked this question, my one word answer is “absolutely!”.  My answer is of this nature not because I can now have a potential client but because it is true.

Businesses (small and large) and even individuals are finding it rewarding to have their very own www.yourname.com presence online.

For many of us, the benefits of having a website is obvious and for some businesses to function or even exist, having a website is everything.

In this article I will outline the top ten reasons why you need to have a website. Some of these reasons may appear to overlap but it is important to consider them separately. In no particular order:

1. You are open for business all day (and every day).

Having a website for your business means that your customers and clients can access (information on) your products and services at any time even when you are sleeping. There are some businesses that operate entirely online. One of my favorite place to buy new tech stuff is NewEgg.com. Never will you see opening and closing hours at NewEgg.com. This means that you can do business with them whenever it is convenient to you, like if 1 AM in the morning you feel like buying a new i7 laptop.

2. Digital Marketing is cheap and reaches more audience.

It is by far the most cost effective way of marketing and attracting new customers. Having a website is equivalent to having a catalog delivered to every computer in the world. The Internet provides a balanced environment for small or large businesses to attract new sales.

3. Identity and online presence.

In the time of Bing and Google the majority of people who are looking for a service or a product start by looking online. In the past when you wanted to find something fast you will dig through the yellow pages and make a few calls. Now, if you want to find something – you “google” it.

Recently I was looking to buy a new phone. I love smart phone that are small and I prefer Nokia. Without leaving my office I went to Google.com and typed “nokia small smart phone” and the Nokia 700 was the first on the list of results. I then tried to look for a local supplier but with no luck on that I ended up buying it from Amazon.com.

4. Take your business beyond geographical borders.

The Internet (and your website) has no international borders.  People in Korea can type www.gxmediagy.com and get the same website like the people in Guyana.  Ever since we put up our website for GxMedia we were able to attract customers (and partners) from as far as India.

5. Stand out from the crowd.

When you have an effective website you are able to stand out from your competitors. Recently I was looking up law firms in Guyana for a colleague. I found fhylaw-gy.com and they got a new client!

In today’s digital world a company without a website is a company without a face.

6. Keep your customers informed.

You are able to keep your customers informed about your products and services in one place. GT&T takes full advantage of this by updating and keeping their content on their website fresh. Frequently you are able to learn about new services or receive updates by visiting a business’s website.  Some websites offers you the opportunity to subscribe to the content and with this you are able to receive email notification on any new changes.

7. Easy customer support.

Many businesses are finding it easier and cost effective to have an online support facility. In some case this has replaced all other forms of customer support.  Support forums are also a great choice for customers who are looking for support on a product.

8. Communication and customer feed-back.

Your website can give your customers a way to easily communicate with you on a one to one basis. Many of our new clients come to us through our online website contact form.

9. Branding.

Online presence help your branding efforts. Also when you get email services with your domain you are able to have custom email addresses like [email protected] or [email protected]. These are little things that can go a far way.

10. Because it is the right thing to do.

People expect you to have a website. This was only true for email addresses but now because of the popularity of the Internet and the ease of access more and more customers are asking for your website address.

In another article that will follow shortly you will learn about the different types of websites and you also find out what makes a website effective.

If this article has convinced you to get a new website then you are already at the right place. Let us hear from you and we can begin the process of getting you the online presence you need.  We will take care of the design and development, the content and the hosting.
